Through U.S. HealthWorks Medical Group Drug and Alcohol Management Program, employers can fulfill their drug and alcohol testing requirements specified by the Department of Transporation (DOT). Our own proprietary Drug and Alcohol Management Software program calculates the number of random drug and alcohol tests that must be performed to meet the DOT minimum requirements. Employers with only one covered position will be aggregated with other one-driver companies into a consortium pool.

All agencies that are a part of the following organizations are required to be in this type of program which selects 50% of these employees for Urine Drug Screens and 10% of the employees for Breath Alcohol Tests per calendar year:

• DOT – Department of Transportation
• FAA – Airline Industry
• FTA – Transit
• RSPA – Pipeline
• FRA – Railroad
• USCG – Coast Guard/Merchant Marine
• FMCSA – Federal Motor Carriers with:
  • A vehicle with a gross weight of 26,001 pounds or more
  • A vehicle which is designed to carry 16 or more passengers including the driver
  • A vehicle of any size and weight that is used to transport hazardous materials

Non-Mandated/Non-Regulated Drug and Alcohol Testing Program
U.S. HealthWorks Medical Group also offers Non-Mandated/Non-Regulated Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs through the same software program used in the Federally Mandated/DOT Regulated management program. However, in this case, the program is customized to the company's specific policy.

• How often selections are made
• How many are selected
• If they want both drug and alcohol testings performed

Since these drug tests are not mandated, there are no specific rules of how many employees are to be tested. It depends on how each individual company's policy is written.
